You don’t have to be a millionaire to exude elegance and live an elevated life. Nor do you have to own luxury goods or live in a lavish home to elevate your lifestyle. Certainly, material luxuries are wonderful to have, but they aren’t what will lead you to living your best life. In actuality, it is the actions we take that align us with our highest selves, and have us glowing from within. This is why it’s so important to cut any self-deprecating and self-sabotaging nonsense out of our lives. And thusly, why we should always be striving to grow and put effort into bettering ourselves.
Those who genuinely live an elevated lifestyle are constantly putting work into themselves. They take care of themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. These elegant humans carry themselves with confidence, and they don’t shy away from anything that will carry them to the next level of their lives. They’re often curious, and eager to learn. And let’s not forget, they are kind, but they take no BS from anyone.
That sounds quite like a wonderful way to live, doesn’t it? It would honestly be a great disservice to yourself not to elevate your lifestyle to such a level.
1 — Pamper Yourself (More) Often
My lovely, you do not need to earn the right to relax or pamper yourself. You do not need to wait for a special occasion to take that luxurious bath or give yourself that at-home facial that you’ve been wanting. Your sheet masks and under eye patches don’t only work on the weekends. A cup of floral tea and a Gua Sha massage might even be exactly what you need on a random Tuesday evening. So just let yourself have those things, regardless of the occasion.
A moment spent pampering yourself and filling your cup is never a moment wasted. The fact that you conquered your day is enough reason to deserve a pampering session. Or maybe you struggled today, and the pick-me-up that a relaxing bath offers is what you need to get your sparkle back. No matter how big or small, these moments of self-pampering will have you glowing from the inside out.
2 — Put Effort into Your Appearance
Whether you’re going to the office, headed out for coffee, attending a social event, or staying at home, it always feels good to look put together. This isn’t to say that you need to wear your best dress and put on full-glam makeup to clean the bathroom. Nor does it mean that you have to spend an hour on an updo to go to the gym. It also doesn’t mean that you can’t be comfortable when you head out for lunch with your besties. It often takes merely a few extra minutes to create an effortless but put-together look. And there is a plethora of ways to dress comfortably, while also looking chic and elegant.
I love to wear athleisure when I’m staying at home, going for walks, or just running to the grocery store. Moving your body is well-known to elevate your lifestyle in numerous ways, and it’s not all about vanity. Not only does regular exercise help you feel physically stronger, boost your immune system, and even improve your posture, but it also has a plethora of benefits on your mental health. Adding in a little movement into your morning routine can give your brain a boost to spark more creativity. Getting your heart pumping can also help to boost your energy and fight off that sluggish feeling. And if you’re not feeling your best mentally, exercise can also help to relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety. There are so many reasons to get moving!
And you don’t need a gym membership to get a great workout. Nor do you need to attend a workout class; unless you’re craving the social aspect of fitness. Whether you’re up for cardio, or you’d prefer a gentle yoga session, you’re sure to find great workout routines on YouTube. You can also opt to go for a leisurely walk around the neighborhood. Move your body in a way that feels good, and your body and mind will thank you.
4 — Have Consistent Daily Routines
Curating your own daily routines that suit your needs is a must if you genuinely want to elevate your lifestyle. Having daily routines that you’re able to stay consistent with allows you to be “that girl” in your own right and thrive as your best self, all throughout your day. What your daily routine looks like is entirely up to you, and it should be unique to your own needs and wishes. You don’t need to join the 4:00 AM club to have a morning routine that elevates your lifestyle. No really, you don’t. Nor do you need to have an extensive evening routine before you go to sleep at night. You just have to know what your needs are, and be consistent.
5 — Say Affirmations, Out Loud
Our words have power; that’s a fact of the Law of Attraction. Whether we speak positivity or negativity into our lives is on us. And unfortunately, many of us have grown accustomed to the latter as we’ve progressed through life. So, my lovely, it’s time to change that if you want to start living your best life and begin to feel like your best self. It is time that you start speaking positivity into your life, both in your head and out loud. Start saying positive affirmations that you resonate with (or wish to resonate with) in the mirror every morning. Write them down in your journal. Put them on your vision board. Post them to your social media accounts for the world to see.
Have some fun with your affirmations, and don’t hold back. Even if you feel a bit silly. You’ll be surprised by how much positive words can help elevate your life to the next level.
6 — Go for Your Dreams
Whether your ultimate dream is to become a content creator, open the business that you’ve always dreamed of, or get that dream job, go for it! While it will be a lot of work, and you may have your fair share of failures and rejections in the process, the only way to achieve your dreams is to make strides towards them. After all, we miss 100% of the chances that we don’t take. So shoot for the moon, my lovely. Great things come to those who take a chance on what they truly desire.
So take that course, and expand your knowledge. Upload that first video to YouTube. Record your first podcast. Invest time and money in your business, and lock in. Apply for that job, even if you are technically under-qualified. Learn from your failures, and build on your successes. Keep persisting until you get there. And when you get there? Well, keeping going, and allow yourself to take your dreams even further! Keep elevating to the next level!
7 — Reduce Your Screentime
Full transparency here! As someone with aspirations that involve my digital devices and who also enjoys video games as a hobby, this one is a bit tricky for me. It almost feels like a heavy ask of anyone in the modern world to put their devices down for any length of time. Especially when that includes shutting off the TV, and not playing any music in the background off your phone. But really, it just goes to show how badly we all need a digital detox! While our digital devices are amazing for staying connected, finding entertainment, and even giving us the tools to make strides toward our dreams like never before, they’re also majorly taking over our lives.
Not to mention, they’re diminishing our attention spans. Don’t lie, I know you haven’t read this article word for word. Because most of us can’t focus for that long!
For real though, we could all benefit from shutting our screens off for a while to give our brains (and eyes) a break. Even if it’s just for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening as we’re winding down for bed. Or better yet, taking an entire day off from our screens and focusing on activities that help elevate our lifestyle, instead of endlessly scrolling. There is no harm that can be done by allowing yourself to untether from your devices for a bit.
8 — Spend More Time Outdoors
Many of us get bummed out by cold, rainy, or otherwise dreary weather. Where I live in the Midwest, Winter is particularly a doozy, and I find myself griping about how cold it is the entire season. Yet, when the warm and sunny days arrive, many of us still find ourselves indoors all day. Surely, we’re enjoying the extra sunshine coming through our windows. But can we actually say that we’re making the most of a lovely day when we’re sitting on the couch with the windows open? Honestly, no, we absolutely can not.
My point is, when the lovely weather that we long for arrives, we should be striving to spend some time outdoors in it. Especially if you live in an area where you don’t generally have beautiful weather year-round. Like the Midwest.
Not only is it nice to change up your scenery, and not be cooped up indoors, but there are numerous benefits to spending more time in nature. Getting some fresh air can boost your mood and help relieve feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression. Sometimes, going for a nice long walk is exactly what you need to release pent-up frustration. And there’s something about reading a book on the back patio with a cold glass of fruity tea that truly elevates the reading experience. Honestly, everything done outdoors feels like an elevated experience.
9 — Perform More Random Acts Of Kindness
The world can use more kindness. I think we can all agree on that fact. Unfortunately, many of us have had unkind things done to us, and witnessed unkind things being done to others. Often by people who have also been treated unkindly in their lives, and have opted to continue the cycle. But those of us striving to elevate our lifestyle are not only choosing to break the cycle of unkindness, but are intentionally choosing to spread kindness instead. As a matter of fact, we throw kindness around like confetti at a music festival. And we understand that it doesn’t have to cost us a thing.
If you feel compelled, it is certainly a kind gesture to pay for the beverage of the person behind you at the coffee shop. However, even offering a simple heartfelt compliment to someone can truly brighten their day. So if you like the outfit the girl you’re standing next to at the grocery store is wearing, let her know that you love her outfit! Or, if you have a coworker who makes your work days more enjoyable, tell them that they’re a pleasure to work with. You never know just how much it might brighten their day.
These people just might pay it forward, and spread kindness on to the next person, and begin to elevate their lifestyle through spreading kindness as well.
10 — Have and Enforce FIRM Boundaries
Being a kind-hearted person and filling others’ cup is comes naturally to those of us who strive to elevate our lifestyle. On that note, it is also crucial that we do not allow ourselves to become doormats and attempt to pour from an empty vessel. Nor should be we saying yes to everything, when we’re already feeling overwhelmed. We absolutely must have boundaries, and not put ourselves into situations where we’re being hurt or depleted. Remember, elegant people do not accept mistreatment from others. Nor do they allow their kindness to be taken advantage of. They also know how to say “no” to things that do not serve them whenever needed.
To elevate your lifestyle, you must stop wasting your time and energy on BS that dulls your sparkle and that leaves you feeling depleted. Please, don’t allow anyone or anything to dim your light. Graciously say no, step back, or walk away if you have to. Don’t accept any nonsense, and don’t drain yourself.
11 — Keep Your Space Clean and Clutter-Free
There is something about being in a freshly cleaned and well-organized space that feels so motivating and inspiring. Likewise, being a messy and cluttered environment feels a bit chaotic and draining. Perhaps, this is why organization and restock content is so satisfying to watch on TikTok. It may also be why many of us feel compelled to clean as a stress response. After all, they do say that the state of your physical space is a reflection of the state of your mind. Even from an objectively practical standpoint, having an organized space where everything is in the right place spares us time and stress.
Knowing that, it’s common sense that keeping our space tidy helps to elevate our lifestyle. So, let’s be making an effort to properly put our laundry away as soon as we pull it out of the dryer, and not just throw it into a basket in the corner to become wrinkled. Let’s clean up the fallout from applying our makeup after we’re done, rather than allowing it to sit and potentially stain our vanity. And, my lovely, you can toss those random receipts that are scattered throughout your bag. You’re not returning your groceries from a month ago.
It often takes but a few moments to tidy up our space as we go about our daily routines. And it just might spare us the frantic energy of not knowing where our keys got tossed come Monday morning.
12 — Be Curious and Keep Learning
As humans, we are naturally curious creatures. I’m willing to bet that there’s at least one thing that you’d love to know more about. Especially as a person looking to elevate your lifestyle. Perhaps you have an interest in a particular topic or period in history. Or there’s a public figure that you find inspiring, and want to learn more about. There may be a skill that you would absolutely love to gain, or even a language that you would love to learn. Or you’re looking to expand your skillset in an existing hobby. There are infinite interesting things for us to learn about.
On that note, there is also infinite knowledge available to us. Oftentimes, quite literally in the palm of our hands. There are tutorials and courses available for just about anything you’d like to learn online. And offline, you may also enjoy taking advantage of in-person seminars and workshops. You just might make some connections with like-minded individuals while you’re there. But if you’re not able to attend an in-person event, picking up a book about a topic you’re interested in is also quite an enriching experience. There are many ways to learn and expand your knowledge, both online and offline. So let’s always be curious and open to knowledge.
