20 Delightful Autumnal Activities You Need to Try This Fall

Autumn is truly a season to be savored and enjoyed. Especially as it’s quite a fun season, with many wonderful festivities for us to enjoy throughout the season. Let’s enjoy as many Autumnal activities as we can before Autumn slips away in late December.

Autumn is a beloved season of so many of us for quite a few reasons. Even as Summertime girl, who is never quite ready to let go of Summer, I can’t deny that Autumn is a beautiful season. Fall is also quite a fun season, and some of my favorite festivities happen to be Autumnal activities. Many of which I’ve loved from early childhood, and still look forward to as an adult. Then there are the ones that I’ve come to love as an introverted adult for the rainy Autumnal evenings. Honestly, it’s quite easy to embrace Autumnal activities every day of the season. No matter what the weather looks like on any given day in the Fall.

Every day of Autumn also feels like a celebration, so it doesn’t have to be a particular holiday to embrace the beauty of Autumn. So many of the festivities associated with Mabon and Samhain can be done on any day in the Fall. Plus, the preparations for Halloween are fun in themselves. Let’s also not forget that Autumn makes for a wonderful time to prepare for the next year, before most people would think to. And it’s the ultimate season for cozy activities. Whilst enjoying what is left of the nice weather for the year.

Outdoor Autumnal Activities

While the weather can be quite a mixed bag in the transitional season of Autumn, Fall still comes with some lovely weather. And the “ber” months are often the last of the consistently lovely weather that we’ll be seeing for a while. So we might as well make the most of the lovely Autumnal weather while it’s here, and enjoy some outdoor Autumnal activities. Let’s get outside and fully embrace the Autumnal season and take it all in. Whilst also connecting with our inner child, and revisiting the parts of Fall that we loved when we were young. And while also discovering new things to love about Autumn as an adult.

Let’s get out there between rainstorms, my lovely. Even if it’s a little bit chilly out. Because there are so many great Autumnal activities to be enjoyed outdoors before “that season” rolls in. Autumn is too lovely not to soak up the last of the sunshine as the golden leaves float around us. Whilst we have a blast doing so.

1. Jump Into a Leaf Pile

I’m not going to lie, cleaning up the fallen leaves from the backyard is not my favorite Autumnal activity. But as a child, I loved to jump into the leaves and bury myself in leaf piles in the Fall. It actually was one of my favorite things about Autumn as a child! So why not allow myself to have a little bit of fun when it comes time to rake up the leaves in the Fall? Let’s all allow ourselves to reconnect with our inner child and dive into the fallen leaf piles as we’re raking or leaf-blowing. Certainly, we may want to take a nice hot shower and enjoy an Autumnal beverage afterward. But let’s have some fun with this Autumnal chore!

2. Go For an Autumnal Walk

Autumn is my absolute favorite time to go for a walk! At the peak of the season, it’s often not too hot or too cold to go for a long walk comfortably. To make it even better, the Autumnal scenery is absolutely mesmerizing to look at as you stroll along. I love to put on a playlist that gives off Autumnal vibes as I walk along and take in the scenery. Although I also love to use my Autumnal walks as a time to disconnect from the digital world, and just listen to the sounds of Nature.

3. Autumnal Photoshoots

In my opinion, Fall is the most photogenic season of them all! Certainly, every season has its photogenic beauty, even the cold one I’m not so fond of. But Autumn is the easiest season to capture some stunning photos in. Seriously, take your camera with you and just start snapping photos of the colorful scenery that you’re surrounded by. You don’t even have to try very hard to get some stunning Autumnal photos. Fall scenery can also make a wonderful background for your own selfies or family photos. Be sure to take advantage of the colorful landscape to get some Instagram or frame-worthy photos before all the leaves are gone.

4. Attend a Fall Festival

Fall festivals often offer a wide variety of Autumnal activities that people of all ages can enjoy. A lot of the time, they may offer hayrides so that you can ride around the neighborhood and enjoy the colorful scenery. You’ll also often be able to partake in Autumnal-themed games as a way to connect with others in your community. Whilst also being able to enjoy some Fall treats from local small businesses. You may even be able to pick up some handmade Fall decor. Even if you only stop by for the atmosphere, it’s worth spending some time enjoying the Autumnal festivities in your community.

5. Go To a Farmers’ Market

One of my favorite things about Autumn is the food and drinks that are available during the season. As well as the fruits and vegetables that come into season in the Fall. So it’s certainly a treat to stop by my local farmer’s market and pick out some harvestables that were in my local area. Especially when I know that by doing so, I’m supporting local farmers and their small businesses. Whilst taking home some fresh Autumnal fruits and vegetables to enjoy in my own Fall meals. A lot of the time, they’ll also offer local Apple cider and quite a variety of fresh-baked goods as well.

6. Go Apple Picking or Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Honestly, you can’t get produce any fresher than picking it from the tree or the vine yourself. It can be such a fun experience to take a walk through your local apple orchard or pumpkin patch and pick your own produce, straight from the orchard. Certainly, it is a fun way to experience a bit of the harvest season for yourself. Whilst choosing the perfect apples and pumpkins to bring home with you. You can make quite a memorable afternoon of it on a lovely Autumn day.

7. Visit a Corn Maze or Haunted House

Exploring haunted houses and corn mazes, or haunted corn mazes, is a staple of Autumn. Especially as the spooky season rolls in. You can have a blast exploring a corn maze on an Autumn afternoon and getting lost for a bit. And you’ll certainly feel a sense of accomplishment once you find your way out on the other side! Alternatively, you can also explore a haunted house and have a night of frightening fun. Or you could visit the haunted house after your afternoon at the corn maze, and make an entire day of it. Or perhaps, you could spend an evening in a haunted corn maze.

8. Attend a Bonfire

Cozying up by a bonfire or firepit is a wonderful way to enjoy a beautiful and crisp Autumn night. Especially when you’re joined by the people that you’re closest to. And when you can bring some snacks and make some s’mores, it makes for the ultimate Autumnal activity. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the chilly evenings of Autumn and make cozy memories during the “ber” months. Perhaps, it can even be the way you spend your Autumnal Friday evenings, when the weather is cooperative.

Just please, be sure to be safe about bonfires, as fire is no joke. Not to sound like a PSA, but bonfires are the coziest when they’re safe. We don’t want any fire accidents. Nor do we want to get fined because we broke local laws regarding bonfires.

Getting Into The Autumnal Spirit

Autumn is quite a festive season in itself, and there are so many ways that we can honor Autumn itself all throughout the “ber” months. That said, some of the most fun celebrations and holidays also happen to be in the Fall. Holidays that we can often begin celebrating and preparing weeks before they actually arrive, such as Halloween. As well as celebrations that we can carry all throughout the Autumnal season, such as Mabon and Samhain. Plus, there are so many little things to embrace about Autumn while it’s still here. Yes, I’m talking about those pumpkin spice lattes many of us clammer for when September arrives.

Let’s also not forget that Autumn has so many wonderful lessons for us to embrace and ponder throughout the season. And perhaps, we can align with Mother Earth and follow her lead throughout this colorful season. There are so many ways that we can embrace the energy of Fall and make the most of it. Especially as Autumn is a season to be savored up until the very end of it in late December. Before you-know-what arrives.

9. Decorate For Autumn

Certainly, it may feel like a part of your annual routine to take out the Autumnal and Halloween decorations in September and begin decorating. But why not allow for it to be a celebratory occasion to take out your Autumnal decor and put your pumpkins out? Personally, I’ve decided that this year, I’m going to wait for the Autumn Equinox (Mabon) to decorate for Fall. And as I decorate, I fully intend to play a movie or show that reminds me of the Autumnal season in the background. Whilst I keep myself hydrated with some apple cider from my local farmers’ market, and place each decor piece with intention.

10. Enjoy Autumnal Treats

Enjoy that pumpkin spice latte, my lovely. Whether you choose to make it at home, get it from a local coffee shop, or a major coffee chain is up to you. If your pumpkin spice lattes bring you joy in the Fall, enjoy them and savor them. The same goes for apple cider, both hot and cold. As well as all of the pies and other baked goods. Allow yourself to indulge in all of your favorite treats of the Autumnal season. Whether it be the sweet treats, the fresh fruits and vegetables, or the savory stews. It’s wonderful to enjoy and savor all of these treats while they’re in season.

11. Try Some Pumpkin Crafts

Carving pumpkins to set out around Halloween is amongst the most iconic of Autumnal activities. And it can be quite an enjoyable activity that you can get quite creative with, and make some unique works of art. You don’t necessarily have to carve a traditional jack-o’-lantern; you can certainly use your creativity and have some fun with it. And although pumpkin carving can be a bit messy, the mess is a part of the fun. Especially if you save the pulp and seeds to use in Autumnal recipes later on.

However, if you prefer a slightly less messy way to decorate pumpkins, you can always choose to paint them instead. Personally, I prefer painting pumpkins versus carving them myself, as I’m not that confident in my knife skills. Painting pumpkins is also a safer alternative for children, seniors, or anyone with dexterity issues. It can be just as fun, with less cleanup, and perhaps even more creative freedom!

12. Autumnal Spiritual Practices

Autumn makes for a wonderful time to connect with your spirituality and draw closer to nature, your spirit guides, and your higher self. Certainly, Autumn is not the only good time to sit down and do a tarot or oracle reading. However, it can be wonderful to sit down and focus the questions and themes of your reading on the energy of the Autumnal season. Especially if you choose to tap into spiritual practices for Mabon and Samhain. And while not a requirement, using tarot and oracle decks that align with the spirit of Autumn can further enhance your spiritual practices in the Fall.

For me, the Mabon and Samhain decks from the Seasons of the Witch oracle deck series instantly come to mind. But, of course, you’ll want to choose decks that resonate with you and align with your own energy. If tarot and oracle readings aren’t your thing, feel free to connect to your spirituality in your own way. Or even nix this one altogether. Take what you need, leave what you don’t.

13. Cleanse Your Space and Let Go Of Clutter

Autumn is the season of cleansing and letting go of what no longer serves you. As the leaves begin to drop, Fall makes for a great time for us to begin releasing and cleansing our lives of what no longer serves us. And one of the many ways we can embrace the Autumnal themes of cleansing and letting go is by physically cleansing and decluttering our physical space. Clutter certainly builds up in our homes over time, and can weigh on us whether we realize it or not. Along with dust and dirt in the areas we seldom think to clean. So before Autumn ends, why not give your home a deep Autumnal cleaning?

Clean the light fixtures, the baseboards, and the hidden areas behind the furniture. Donate some items that no longer serve you so that someone else can love them. Or give them to people you know would love them as gifts this holiday season. You can even make your Autumnal deep cleaning day extra special by playing some Autumnal movies in the background while you cleanse and declutter.

14. Start Prepping For The New Year NOW

As a rather ambitious girly, I often start thinking about my New Year’s resolutions for the next year in the early Fall. And honestly, there is no reason why any of us has to wait until January to start on our New Year’s resolutions. Especially if you’re serious about implementing your New Year’s resolutions into your life as lifestyle changes. And with Autumn being a season of preparation, why not start preparing yourself for a successful year ahead in the last 90-ish days of the year? Not only will you get a great head start on your goals for the next year, but you’ll also have ample time to adjust your resolutions before January 1st arrives.

Besides, why not make the most of what is left of the last couple of months of the current year?

Cozy Indoor Autumnal Activities For The Rainy Days

It goes without saying that not every Autumn day is going to be ideal for spending time outdoors. Fall can be quite a rainy season at times, and some days are just a little bit too chilly. And some Autumnal days are both rainy and chilly. The sun begins to set earlier and earlier in the Fall, so there’s less daylight for doing Autumnal activities outdoors. Heck, some days, we simply might not be up for an eventful day outdoors. Or we just might be looking to cozy up and take it easy, whilst still enjoying the spirit of the Autumnal season.

So rather than allowing a chilly, rainy Autumnal day to get you down, find ways to embrace it. Let yourself cozy up in your home and enjoy a day in your warm space. Whilst enjoying some Autumnal activities wrapped up in your favorite blanket.

15. Reading on a Rainy Day

Reading a book on an audibly rainy Autumn day is the epitome of coziness in the “ber” months. Especially when you’re wrapped in a warm blanket and sipping a warm Autumnal beverage. And when you light a candle with an Autumnal scent, it actually makes those dreary days quite dreamy. For the dreary days where the rain isn’t very audible, you can always play some rain sounds in the background to get a similar ambiance. We can’t change the weather as it begins to shift in the Fall, but we can make the most of it.

16. Watch Autumnal Movies and TV Shows

While it may be a bit of a bummer that Autumn can be quite rainy and dreary, and that there are fewer daylight hours on the nice days, the darkness certainly makes for an ideal movie-watching setup. So rather than being bummed by the earlier sunsets or stormy afternoons, it can be quite lovely to put on an Autumnal movie or TV show to enjoy in the low lighting. Grab some Autumnal snacks and enjoy a cozy evening on the couch, and allow yourself to enjoy some movies and TV shows that bring you Autumnal feelings. Or get into the spirit of spooky season and watch some horror movies, post-apocalyptic TV shows, or spooky documentaries.

17. Prepare Some Autumnal Dishes

One of the best parts of Autumn is the food. We all have some Autumnal dish that we look forward to as the temperature begins to drop. Whether it’s the pies, the pumpkin rolls, the coffee cakes, or the chilis and stews, we all have some Autumnal dish we’re looking forward to enjoying. So why not use a rainy day to stay in and make some homemade pies and baked goods? Perhaps you could try that recipe that you saved on Pinterest ages ago, or try something from that cookbook you bought last Fall.

And with it being chillier outside, you don’t have to worry about overheating the house by cooking or running the oven. As a matter of fact, the warmth radiating from the kitchen will add to the cozy vibes of the season throughout your home. Especially with the aroma of a home-cooked Autumnal meal.

18. Write Some Autumnal Journal Prompts

Journaling is quite a cozy activity that can be done on any day, at any time of the year. But with Autumn being such a cozy season, with so many lessons and themes for us to reflect on, it makes for the perfect season to pull out your journal and write some reflective journal prompts. You can truly make a cozy moment out of this cozy Autumnal activity. It’s such a wonderful way to tune in with yourself. Whilst aligning with the energy and lessons of Autumn.

19. Create An Autumnal Playlist

Every once in a while, I do find that my everyday playlist can become a bit stale. At least, after having listened to it daily for quite some time. Sometimes, I also find that I wish to listen to something that matches the vibe of the current season while I go about seasonal activities. And while I will say that I find Autumnal playlists a bit more challenging to put together than Summer playlists, or even Winter playlists, they are still quite fun to put together. And there are some songs that instantly make me think of Autumn, that help set the tone for the rest of my Fall playlist.

20. Meditate to The Sound of the Rain

Honestly, one of the best Autumnal activities that you can do on a rainy Fall evening is to just sit in stillness. Seriously, allow yourself to take a moment to just be still and listen to the sound of the rain. Without thinking of what’s next on your to do list, or trying to brainstorm for a project. Allow yourself to take a moment to just close your eyes, breathe, and notice what it feels like to exist. Let go of the day thus far, and don’t think about what is yet to come. Just be present, and meditate to the sound of the rain. Try to be still for at least five minutes, if not longer. Your to do list can wait for you to come back with a fresh mind.

Conclusion

Autumn is quite a lovely time of the year, and it is certainly a season to be cherished. Between the important lessons that Autumn has to teach us, the cozy energy of Fall, and all of the wonderful things that Autumn has to offer, we should certainly be making the most of it. Honestly, everyday of Autumn feels like a celebration, so let’s make the most of its festivities. Let’s get out and enjoy what’s left of the lovely weather before we slip into the next season. Whilst we also cozy up indoors when the weather isn’t cooperating. Let’s simply enjoy this lovely season and partake in as many Autumnal activities as we can.

What are some of your favorite Autumnal activities? How will you be making the most of Fall this year? Do you have any unique Autumnal festivities and traditions of your own? I’d love to hear about them!
